RailPro
RailPro designs, develops and manufactures state-of-the-art technology for Road/Rail vehicles (“RRVs”). An RRV is a “bimodal” vehicle that can operate both on rail tracks and on conventional road. RRVs are typically used by rail network operators and contractors to maintain the rail infrastructure.
The company is currently operating in Johannesburg, South Africa. RailPro was awarded the Design Excellence Award by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). RailPro has 40 vehicles serving Transnet in a maintenance capacity.
RailPro manufacture a range of vehicles for maintenance, including vehicles with cherry pickers, cranes, welding, freight and materials handling, inspection and greasing variants.
Africa presents an opportunity to innovate. There is underutilised railway track across Africa – running through densely populated areas, where the poorest citizens are faced with an effective tax on mobility. We have teamed up with Isuzu to develop the RailBus™ – a new form of public transport for Africa.
RailPro’s RailBus project recently won the 2017 SAB(InBev) Foundation award for Social Innovation. With Isuzu, RailPro seek to deliver the RailBus™ to emerging markets, harnessing support from “social impact” investors to provide a reliable, innovative and cost effective solution that addresses widespread “Mobility Poverty” in emerging markets.

“…RailBus™ challenges the merits of building long trains in an African context, as the best way to move people by rail.”
“…Congratulations on a really technically and socially smart idea”
Professor Antonio Estache, Former Chief Economist for Sustainable Development, World Bank.
Testimonials
We at Bidvest over the last four years of operation found the DSDS technology to be simple, reliable, cost-effective and energy efficient. The technology, which has demonstrated significant advantages over the friction drum drive and rubber-on-track systems previously developed in this fleet.
Head of Maintenance Monitoring Unit and National Operations of Specialised Equipment, Bidvest Bank
We are developing our fleet based on RailPro’s maintenance platform. These vehicles have been put to work in rail maintenance and construction environments and have consistently delivered superior performance in comparison to other RRVs currently on the market. We have ordered the RailPro crane RRV so as to meet and exceed our client’s expectations. The stiff-boom crane allows our company to achieve higher work-rates, thereby increasing productivity, while operating with greater safety, which directly benefits our customers.
